A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Farm
Show.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the proud host of the largest indoor
agricultural exposition in the nation, the Pennsylvania Farm
Show, home to nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits
and 300 commercial exhibits; and
WHEREAS, According to reports from the Hershey Harrisburg
Regional Visitors Bureau, the Pennsylvania Farm Show supports
more than 18,000 jobs and generates an estimated $95 million in
revenue per year for the south-central Pennsylvania region
during the week-long event; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Farm Show has helped to educate the
next generation of farmers through organizational support,
classes and exhibits; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Farm Show was organized in 1916 by
the Secretary of Agriculture of the Commonwealth, Charles
Patton, in an effort to bring trade associations, businesses and
farmers together to share ideas and information on agriculture
and economic trends in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Until the 1930s, the Pennsylvania Farm Show was held
at various locations throughout Harrisburg in order to
effectively host the increase in attendees and exhibits; and
WHEREAS, In 1929, in order to create a centralized location
that could address the exponential growth of the Pennsylvania
Farm Show, the General Assembly appropriated $1.34 million
towards the construction of the first Pennsylvania Farm Show
complex; and
WHEREAS, During the dedication of the first Pennsylvania Farm
Show complex, Governor Fisher described the event as "the
romance of Pennsylvania agriculture"; and
WHEREAS, A local newspaper at the time portrayed the
Pennsylvania Farm Show as "the annual meeting-place of the
farmer and city-dweller"; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Pennsylvania Farm Show has held a
tradition of showcasing this Commonwealth's unmatched
agricultural and business achievements and innovations for the
residents of this Commonwealth and people from around the world;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
100th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
