A RESOLUTION

Recognizing with sadness the supreme sacrifice of Corporal

2

Jonathan M. Walls, who was killed in action in Kandahar

3

province in Afghanistan when insurgents attacked his patrol

4

with improvised explosive devices and rocket-propelled

5

grenades while he was courageously serving our nation.

6

WHEREAS, Army Corporal Jonathan M. Walls, a 2001 graduate of

7

Wilson High School, was one of three soldiers killed in Kandahar

8

province when insurgents attacked their patrol with improvised

9

explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades; and

10

WHEREAS, Two other soldiers, Pfc. Richard K. Jones, 21,

Person, North Carolina, and Pvt. Patrick S. Fitzgibbon, 19,

2

Knoxville, Tennessee, were also killed in the same attack; and

3

WHEREAS, All three were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th

4

Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry

5

Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; and

6

WHEREAS, Corporal Walls lived with his wife, Meghan, and

7

three children in Fort Carson; and

8

WHEREAS, In addition to his wife and three children, Corporal

9

Walls is survived by his father, Steven A. Walls and his mother,

10

Lisa K. Rowe; and

11

Whereas, Corporal Walls' death came a few weeks after he had

12

narrowly escaped another explosion that damaged his hearing; and

13

WHEREAS, This was Corporal Walls' second tour of duty, his

14

first having been with the Stryker Brigade in Iraq; and

15

WHEREAS, Corporal Walls was the ninth service member with

16

ties to Berks County that has been killed while serving in

17

either Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom;

18

therefore be it

19

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize with

20

sadness the supreme sacrifice of Corporal Jonathan M. Walls, who

21

was killed in action while courageously serving our nation in

22

Afghanistan; and be it further

23

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend

24

condolences to Corporal Walls' wife and children and to his

25

parents.
