                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the United States Congress to investigate delays
     2     in filing claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

     3     WHEREAS, In 1993, a staggering 557,000 compensation and
     4  pension claims were filed by veterans, up by more than 200,000
     5  from 1990; and
     6     WHEREAS, Last year, the initial wait was averaging 177 days
     7  from filing a claim to approval; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Board of Veteran Appeals' Chairperson Charles
     9  Cragin says resolution of appeals of denied claims will soon
    10  average 945 days in fiscal year 1995; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    12  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize Congress to investigate
    13  delays in filing compensation and pension claims with the
    14  Department of Veterans Affairs; and be it further


     1     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     2  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
     3  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
