A RESOLUTION

Designating June 10, 2009, as "Patient Advocate Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Access to health care is a basic human need and a

4

shared societal responsibility; and

5

WHEREAS, One patient who cannot access medical treatment or

6

survive the financial hardship of illness is one patient too

7

many; and

8

WHEREAS, A serious diagnosis must open the door to relevant

9

clinical information, empowerment within the medical care

10

system, timely and sustained medical care and intervention, an

11

ability to efficiently and effectively reach both well-informed

12

and independent decisions and the benefit of appropriate support

13

which removes barriers to this care and empowerment; and

WHEREAS, The challenging complexity of ensuring health care

2

to those in need must not deter or distract us from the urgency

3

of finding and creating solutions to this persistent problem

4

which requires immediate relief; and

5

WHEREAS, Only the continuous, comprehensive, cooperative and

6

collaborative action of Pennsylvania's government, private

7

industry, health care providers and citizens can surmount this

8

challenge; and

9

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth affirms its commitment to

10

progressive, fiscally sound, fair and effective health care for

11

each of its citizens and stands in voice and action as an

12

advocate for the patient now and in preparation for when the

13

challenge is greatest; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June

15

10, 2009, as "Patient Advocate Day" in Pennsylvania.
