A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 12 through 18, 2019, as "Food
Allergy Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "Food Allergy Awareness Week" was established as a
national week of encouraging food allergy awareness and
supporting those who are impacted by food allergies and
anaphylaxis; and
WHEREAS, Food allergies affect approximately 15 million to 32
million Americans, including 6 million children; and
WHEREAS, The prevalence of food allergies appears to be
increasing among individuals under 18 years of age, which is
equivalent to two students in every classroom in every school in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, The eight foods that account for 90% of all food
allergy reactions are peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy,
fish and shellfish; and
WHEREAS, A food allergy is an immune system response to a
