        ADOPTED, APRIL 19, 1994

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating May 1994 as "Armed Forces History Month" and urging
     2     the Secretary of Education to integrate military history and
     3     contributions of our veterans into the social studies
     4     curriculum.

     5     WHEREAS, The history of the United States of America reveals
     6  that our peaceful tranquility and pursuit of happiness have
     7  often been threatened or interrupted by the enemies of freedom;
     8  and
     9     WHEREAS, Millions of Pennsylvania's sons and daughters have
    10  defended our nation during peace and armed conflict; and
    11     WHEREAS, Military history and the sacrifices of our veterans
    12  have been an integral part of America's past; and
    13     WHEREAS, It is important for Pennsylvanians to understand our

     1  military history and its role in keeping America free so that
     2  our citizens can enjoy the blessings of liberty; and
     3     WHEREAS, Learning military history better prepares us to
     4  understand the complex problems which will be associated with
     5  the global challenges we will face in the future; therefore be
     6  it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the
     8  Secretary of Education and the Department of Education to
     9  encourage the integration of military history and the
    10  contributions of our veterans into Pennsylvania's social studies
    11  curriculum and further direct that May 1994 be designated as
    12  "Armed Forces History Month."
