A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the month of May 1992 as "Healthy Baby Month" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation has 4 declared May 1992 to be "Healthy Baby Month," in order to spread 5 the word about the importance of prenatal care and nutrition to 6 a healthy pregnancy; and 7 WHEREAS, Although birth defects strike in a number of ways 8 and every family is vulnerable, much has been learned in recent 9 years about reducing the risks of known causes of physical and 10 mental damage during pregnancy; and 11 WHEREAS, Early, regular prenatal care is a pregnant woman's 12 first line of defense for protecting her baby; if problems 13 arise, the earlier they are detected, the more likely they are
1 to respond to treatment; and 2 WHEREAS, Today's pregnant woman can benefit from new 3 knowledge, new skills and new technology to monitor a healthy 4 birth and to diagnose and treat high-risk problems that occur; 5 therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the General Assembly recognize the month of 7 May 1992 as "Healthy Baby Month" in Pennsylvania, and urge every 8 mother and prospective mother to contact the March of Dimes 9 Birth Defects Foundation and allied organizations for literature 10 to keep herself informed on what she can do to protect her 11 baby's health: eating wisely; avoiding infections such as 12 rubella; not using prescribed or over-the-counter drugs without 13 a doctor's advice; getting plenty of rest and exercise; and 14 using caution about drinking, smoking and, of course, illicit 15 drugs.
