A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the weeks of April 4 through 11, 1994, as "Voter 2 Registration and Voter Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania for 3 the primary election and October 4 through 11, 1994, as 4 "Voter Registration and Voter Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania 5 for the general election. 6 WHEREAS, Voting is among the most important civic duties and 7 rights that our citizens have, a right that many people have 8 died in war to preserve; and 9 WHEREAS, April 11 is the deadline to register to vote for the 10 May 10, 1994, primary election and October 11 is the last day to 11 register for the November 8, 1994, general election; and 12 WHEREAS, A representative democracy works well on any level 13 only when the people it serves actively participate in choosing 14 those who will represent them in office; and 15 WHEREAS, The people who remain unregistered or who fail to
1 take the time to vote should be reminded of the need to register 2 and urged to cast a ballot in the May 10 primary election and 3 the November 8 general election; and 4 WHEREAS, Proclaiming "Voter Registration and Voter Awareness 5 Weeks" in Pennsylvania for the 1994 primary and general 6 elections would put special emphasis on registering to vote by 7 the April 11 and October 11 deadlines and on participating in 8 the May 10 primary election and November 8 general election and 9 further help focus various groups and media outlets to remind 10 people of the need to register and to vote; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 12 weeks of April 4 through 11, 1994, as "Voter Registration and 13 Voter Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania for the primary election 14 and October 4 through 11, 1994, as "Voter Registration and Voter 15 Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania for the general election; and be 16 it further 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the Governor 18 and the Secretary of the Commonwealth to issue a special 19 proclamation on those weeks encouraging all residents of voting 20 age to register by the deadlines and cast ballots in the 21 elections.
