        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 21, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of September 2001 as "Pennsylvania Grape
     2     Month."

     3     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania growers produce many of the finest food
     4  products available in the world; and
     5     WHEREAS, Today, Pennsylvania grapes are the result of the
     6  tireless efforts of generations of Pennsylvanians who were
     7  instrumental in founding our Nation's great wine industry; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's 55 commercial wineries, together with
     9  the Pennsylvania Grape Industry Association, continue to promote
    10  and enhance the grape industry within this Commonwealth,
    11  improving the quality of life for its citizens; and
    12     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania produces in excess of 58,000 tons of
    13  grapes annually on 11,000 acres of vineyards, cared for by 300

     1  dedicated growers, enriching this Commonwealth's economy by over
     2  $100 million annually; and
     3     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the fifth largest producer of grapes
     4  in the United States; and
     5     WHEREAS, Our growers produce the finest table, jelly and
     6  juice grapes, including such diverse varieties as the Catawba,
     7  the Concord, the Delaware and the Niagara; and
     8     WHEREAS, The largest Concord producing plant in the country
     9  is located in Pennsylvania; and
    10     WHEREAS, The grapes produced in Pennsylvania are enjoyed by
    11  the citizens of this Commonwealth and by the people of our
    12  entire Nation; and
    13     WHEREAS, September and October are important months of
    14  harvest for our Pennsylvania grape growers, this is an ideal
    15  time to recognize their contributions to our Commonwealth;
    16  therefore be it
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in recognition
    18  of the significant and invaluable contributions made by the
    19  grape industry to our history, our economy and our quality of
    20  life as Pennsylvanians, proclaim the month of September 2001 as
    21  "Pennsylvania Grape Month"; and be it further
    22     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
    23  citizens of this Commonwealth to celebrate this occasion by
    24  enjoying many of the grape products available to them through
    25  all seasons of the year.
