        ADOPTED, MARCH 8, 1994

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Extending felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community
     2     on Saint Patrick's Day; and declaring the month of March
     3     "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, On March 17, 1994, the Irish community in this
     5  Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the
     6  glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and
     7     WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
     8  in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on American shores
     9  penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a
    10  future in which they and their children would enjoy the
    11  bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon principles of liberty
    12  and justice for all; and


     1     WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish
     2  Americans have taken their places at the forefront in the
     3  political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and
     4     WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this
     5  Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its
     7  felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community in this
     8  Commonwealth on this momentous occasion and, in recognition of
     9  their contributions, declare the month of March to be "Irish
    10  American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the
    12  Taoiseach, Albert Reynolds T.D., Office of the Prime Minister,
    13  Upper Merrion Street, Dublin, Ireland, and Kevin Patrick
    14  Muldowney, Ancient Order of Hibernians, 4302 Cottman Avenue,
    15  Philadelphia, PA  19135.
