A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Drexel University President Constantine

2

Papadakis and expressing condolences upon his death on April

3

5, 2009, as the result of complications from lung cancer.

4

WHEREAS, Constantine Papadakis, Drexel University's

5

President, died on April 5, 2009, as a result of complications

6

from lung cancer; and

7

WHEREAS, Dr. Papadakis was a native of Athens, Greece, and

8

had a background in engineering before moving to the United

9

States in 1969, where he worked in both private firms and

10

academia before he became the President of Drexel University in

11

1995; and

12

WHEREAS, Dr. Papadakis added the Drexel University College of

Medicine, the Earle Mack School of Law, an online program and a

2

graduate program in Sacramento, California, to Drexel

3

University's vast array of options for students; and

4

WHEREAS, Dr. Papadakis took the school from a BBB+ Standard

5

and Poor rating in 1997 to an A+ rating in 2005; and

6

WHEREAS, Dr. Papadakis is remembered for his tireless effort

7

to make Drexel University the prestigious school that it is

8

today, for his work with the student government of Drexel

9

University to improve student life at the university and for his

10

public service work for the city of Philadelphia; therefore be

11

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

13

Drexel University President Constantine Papadakis and express

14

condolences upon his death on April 5, 2009.
