A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 2, 2017, as "Read Across America Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The residents of this Commonwealth stand firmly
committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students'
future academic success, their preparation for America's jobs of
the future and their ability to compete in a global economy; and
WHEREAS, Community involvement in public education and
reading activities is an important way to foster educational
growth among children; and
WHEREAS, The National Education Association's "Read Across
America Day" began in 1998 as the largest celebration of reading
ever held in our nation's history; and
WHEREAS, "Read Across America Day" continues to be the
nation's largest reading event, with millions of readers
participating in a variety of reading activities; and
