A RESOLUTION
Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Forest
Fire Wardens in this Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, There are approximately 2.2 million acres of State
forest lands and 17 million acres of woodlands that stretch
across this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Wildfire threatens these areas, especially during
the spring and fall; and
WHEREAS, In order to preserve these natural resources, the
Commonwealth relies on about 1,600 people who serve as volunteer
forest fire wardens; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania forest fire warden system was
established by the act of June 3, 1915 (P.L.797, No.353),
referred to as the Forest Fire Protection Act; and

WHEREAS, Forest fire wardens in this Commonwealth actively
promote fire prevention in their communities and often visit
schools and civic groups in a Statewide team effort that in 2013
earned them recognition from the Forest Service of the United
States Department of Agriculture; and
WHEREAS, The efforts of forest fire wardens are worthy of
formal recognition by the Commonwealth during the 100th
anniversary of their founding; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate the
100th Anniversary of the establishment of Forest Fire Wardens in
this Commonwealth.
