HOUSE RESOLUTION

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Offering condolences to the family of Matthew R. Price, who was
     2     fatally injured while serving on the U.S.S. Iowa.

     3     WHEREAS, Matthew R. Price of Burnside, Clearfield County,
     4  enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after his graduation
     5  from Purchase Line High School in 1986; and
     6     WHEREAS, He was assigned to the battleship U.S.S. Iowa, where
     7  his battle station consisted of serving on the gunnery crew
     8  inside the turret of the ship's 16-inch guns; and
     9     WHEREAS, On the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1989, Matthew
    10  R. Price and his crewmates were engaged in gunnery practice
    11  while the U.S.S. Iowa was on maneuvers about 330 miles northeast
    12  of Puerto Rico; and
    13     WHEREAS, At approximately 10 a.m., a sudden explosion flashed
    14  through the Number Two Turret, fatally injuring Matthew R. Price
    15  and 46 of his fellow crewmen; and
    16     WHEREAS, Matthew R. Price joins the hallowed ranks of
    17  millions of American servicemen and servicewomen who have made


     1  the supreme sacrifice in wartime and in peacetime; therefore be
     2  it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     4  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania does hereby offer its sincere and
     5  heartfelt condolences to Arthur and Peggy Price, his parents;
     6  and to Patricia, Karen, Deanna and John Price, his sisters and
     7  brother; and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
     9  Arthur and Peggy Price and their children at their residence in
    10  Burnside.
