Groters Memorial Highway. 6 Amend Preamble, page 1, lines 4 through 17; page 2, line 1, 7 by striking out all of said lines on said pages 8 Amend Sec. 1, page 2, by inserting between lines 4 and 5 9 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as 10 follows: 11 (1) The Blue Star Memorial began in 1945 to honor the 12 men and women serving in the Armed Forces during World War 13 II. The name was chosen for the star on flags displayed in 14 homes and businesses denoting a family member serving. 15 (2) The Blue Star Memorial Program now honors all men 16 and women who have served, are serving or will serve in the 17 Armed Forces of the United States. 18 (3) In June of 2007, the Great Meadows Garden Club of 19 Farmington in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of 20 Transportation erected a Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker at 21 the scenic view on State Route 9202. 22 (4) The scenic view designation honors the commitment, 23 service and sacrifice to those who have served, are serving 24 or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. 25 Amend Sec. 1, page 2, line 5, by striking out "(a)" and 26 inserting 27 (b) 28 Amend Sec. 1, page 2, line 8, by striking out "(b)" and 29 inserting 30 (c) 31 Amend Bill, page 2, by inserting between lines 11 and 12
1 Section 2. John W. Groters Memorial Highway. 2 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as 3 follows: 4 (1) John W. Groters was a prominent member of the Erie 5 community as a volunteer, a businessman and a public servant. 6 (2) He was a volunteer at the West Ridge Fire Department 7 and was the first person to teach first aid to all the 8 volunteer fire departments in Millcreek. 9 (3) He was a partner in the Reffner and Groters Esso 10 Station, located at the corner of West 26th Street and Powell 11 Avenue in the late 1940s and early 1950s. 12 (4) He went to work for the Millcreek School District in 13 maintenance and as a school bus driver eventually rising to 14 become head of transportation, where he scheduled the bus 15 routes for all the Millcreek schools and still filled in as a 16 driver when necessary. 17 (5) In recognition of his contributions to the Millcreek 18 School District, the district honors his memory with an 19 annual John W. Groters Driver of the Year Award. 20 (b) Designation.--The portion of US Route 20, known as West 21 26th Street, in Millcreek Township from Peninsula Drive to 22 Powell Avenue, is designated the John W.
