Leaming & Co., hardware store (1828-1832); partner, Baker & Moss, hardware store (1832-1848); president, Broad-Top Semi-Anthracite Coal Co.; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the HouseĀ  for the 1856 term; director, Commercial Bank of Pennsylvania (1859-1860); president and director, Harrisburg, Portsmouth, Mount Joy and Lancaster Railroad Company (1860); director, Pennsylvania Railroad Company (1866); disbursing agent, Citizens Bounty Fund Committee (1862-1866, Civil War) died, June 20, 1866 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
