PORTER, William, a Representative from Mercer County; born, 1800 in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; blacksmith; elected, auditor, Mahoning Township, Mercer County (1828, 1831, 1835); appointed, justice of the peace (1828); elected, overseer, Mahoning Township (1830); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1837-1838 term; reelected to the House for the 1844 and 1845 terms; proprietor, hotel and mercantile, Lewistown, Il.; died, July 21, 1849 in Lewistown, Fulton County, Illinois; interred, Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Fulton County, Illinois.
