BENEDICT, Silas S., a Representative from Luzerne County; born, March 7, 1816 in Walton, Delaware County, NY; school teacher; proprietor, Joslin & Benedict’s, binders, book & job printers; justice of the peace (1847); member, Luzerne County Democratic Convention (1848); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1850 and 1851 terms; elected, school director, Carbondale (1850-1875); editor and publisher, Carbondale Advance (1858-1889); elected, city commissioner and clerk, Carbondale (1867); notary public (18 years); died, May 15, 1883 in Carbondale, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Maplewood Cemetery, Carbondale, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
