BAKER, William, a Representative from Franklin County; born, February 11, 1813 in Hamilton Township, Franklin County, Pa.; clerk, dry goods store (3 years); surveyor; teacher (1 year); merchant (2 years); proprietor, wool mill and woolen store (4 years); manager, iron furnace (2 years); president, Loudon Savings Fund Association; attorney (1842); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1847, 1848, and 1849; director, Franklin County Mutual Insurance Company (1851); president, Whig County Convention (1852); cashier, Crescent City Bank (1853-1859); elected, mayor, Evansville, In. (1859-1868, 1870-1872); school superintendent, Evansville (1861-1865); insurance agent (1868-1870); died, May 23, 1872 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana; interred, Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.
