WHALLON, Murray, a Representative from Erie County; born, August of 1816 in Mayville, Chautauqua County, NY; general, Pennsylvania Militia; lawyer (1839-1895); presidential appointee, collector, Port of Erie (1845-1849, 1859); elected, delegate, State Democratic Convention (1849, 1853, 1856, 1857); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Senate (1849); elected, mayor, Erie (1852); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1856 term; presidential appointee, Committee to Investigate the San Francisco Mint (1859); inspector, United States Customs House, San Diego, Ca.; special agent, pacific coast, United States Treasury Department (1860); proprietor, vineyard; elected, California State Legislature (1863); elected, auditor and recorder, Sonoma County, Ca. (1895); died, October 7, 1895 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California.
