BURRELL, Jeremiah Murry, a Representative from Westmoreland County; born, September 1, 1815 in Murrysville, Westmoreland County, Pa.; graduated, cum laude, Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College); lawyer (1835-1856); owner and editor, the Pennsylvania ArgusĀ (1839-1851); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1845 and 1846 terms; not a candidate for reelection for the 1847 term; gubernatorial appointee, judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, 10th District (1847-1848); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1848); elected, judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, 10th District (1851-1855); presidential appointee, associate judge, Supreme Court, Kansas Territory (1855-1856); died, October 21, 1856 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
