PACKER, John Black, a Representative from Northumberland County; born, March 21, 1824 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pa.; attended, Sunbury Academy; private, Company D, 3rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); employed, corps of engineers, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1839-1842); lawyer (1844-1891); appointed, deputy attorney general, Northumberland County (1845-1848); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1850 and 1851 terms; organized, Susquehanna Railroad Company (1851-1852); director, Northern Central Railway; president, Bank of Northumberland (1857-1891); elected, United States Congress (1868-1877); died, July 7, 1891 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
