THOMPSON, John, a Representative from Montgomery County; born, February 11, 1799 in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pa.; carpenter; surveyor and conveyancer; appointed, council, Pottstown (1823); elected, burgess, Pottstown (1829); justice of the peace, Pottstown (1833-1863); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1847 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1848 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1859-1861); manager and treasurer. Schuylkill Bridge Company; director and president, Pottstown Mutual Fire Insurance Company; director, Pottstown National Bank; died, January 28, 1887 in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; interred, Edgewood Cemetery, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
