McCLINTOCK, Dr. Jonas Roup, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, January 9, 1808 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa.; graduated, Western University of Pennsylvania (now University of Pittsburgh); M.D., University of Maryland School of Medicine (1830); first lieutenant, 18th Regiment, Duquesne Greys, Pennsylvania Militia (1832); appointed, assistant surgeon, United States Army (1833); aide-de-camp, lieutenant colonel, Pennsylvania Militia (1849-1850); field physician, Pennsylvania Militia (Civil War); physician; appointed, physician of Pittsburgh (1832); captain, Vigilant Fire Company (1833-1835); elected, common council, Pittsburgh (1834-1835; president, 1835); elected, mayor, Pittsburgh (1836-1839); presidential appointee, melter and refiner, United States Mint, Department of Treasury, Philadelphia (1840-1843); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1850 term; trustee, Pittsburgh Commercial College (1850); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1850); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1854-1856); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1864); died, November 25, 1879 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
