STEWART, William, a Representative from Beaver, Butler and Lawrence Counties; born, October 11, 1802 in Squirrel Hill (now Pittsburgh), Allegheny County, Pa.; publisher and editor, Butler Sentinel (1825-1830); appointed, prothonotary, clerk of the quarter sessions and oyer and terminer, Butler County (1830-1833); cashier, State Treasury Department (1841); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1854 and 1855 terms; iron master, Hickory Furnace, Margaret Furnace and Will-Roy Furnace; owner and operator, Winfield Furnace; director, First National Bank of New Castle; died, June 29, 1888 in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greenwood Cemetery, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
