McSHERRY, William, a Representative from Adams County; born, April 14, 1821 in Littlestown, Adams County, Pa.; graduated, Mount St. Mary’s College, 1840; studied law under James M. Cole; attorney (1842-1873); farmer; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1847; reelected to the House in a Special Election, March 16, 1849; Sworn-In, March 21, 1849 to serve the remaining term; reelected to the House in 1850; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1848, 1849, 1851); president, Littlestown Railroad Company; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1863-1865, 1872-1874); not a candidate for reelection to the Senate (1865, 1874); appointed, assessor, Internal Revenue for the 16th Pennsylvania District; director, Gettysburg National Bank; director, Littlestown Savings Institution; director, Gettysburg and Petersburg Turnpike Company; died, January 10, 1899 in Littlestown, Adams County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Aloysius Cemetery, Germany Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania.
