CAMPBELL, Rufus King, a Representative from Greene County; born, October 5, 1820 in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pa.; quartermaster sergeant, 37th Regiment, 8th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1861, Civil War); cattle dealer; elected, sheriff, Greene County (1850-1854); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1856 and 1857 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1858 term; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1860); merchant; deputy United States Marshall (1872-1888); court crier, United States Federal Court, Pittsburgh (1888-1895); died, March 14, 1895 in Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Green Mount Cemetery, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania.
