OWEN, Joshua Thomas, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, March 29, 1821 in Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales; graduated, Jefferson College, 1845; colonel, 24th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); colonel then brigadier general, 69th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1864, Civil War); lawyer (1852-1887); established, Chestnut Hill Academy; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1858 term; elected, recorder of deeds, Philadelphia County (1867-1870); founder and editor, New York Daily Register, newspaper and law journal (1871-1887); died, November 7, 1887 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
