CHASE, Simeon Brewster, a Representative from Sullivan, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties; born, April 18, 1828 in Gibson, Susquehanna County, Pa.; graduated, Hamilton College, 1851; deputy prothonotary, Susquehanna County; lawyer; editor, Montrose Democrat (1847-1851); banker; chair, Susquehanna County Republican Convention (1856); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Unionist for the 1857 term; reelected to the House as a Republican for the 1858 and 1859 terms; Speaker pro tempore (1859); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1860 term; president, Prohibition Party National Convention (1872); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Governor (1872); unsuccessful campaign, judge, Pennsylvania Supreme Court (1878); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1886); died, January 9, 1909 in Hallstead, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania; interred.
