Barry, a Representative from Washington County; born in Fargo, Washington County, Pa., November 7, 1936; graduated, Bentleyville High School, 1955; graduated, valedictorian, Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, 1958; B.A., economics, Washington and Jefferson College, 1964; honorary doctorate of law, Washington and Jefferson College, 2010; served, Corps of Engineers, United States Army (1959-1962); associate, Thompson Funeral Home; vice president, Atlas Railroad Construction Company; partner, Stout Group, Atlas Services Corporation and Marta Track Constructors; member, Bentleyville Planning Committee; deputy coroner, Washington County; financial chairman and executive committee, Bentleyville Sesquicentennial (1965-1966); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1970; reelected to serve 3 consecutive terms thereafter; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, May 17, 1976 (Sworn-In, January 4, 1977-2010); appointed, vice-chair, High Speed Intercity Rail Passenger Commission (1985-1986); appointed, Local Government Commission (1978-2010; chair, 1981-1992, 1995-1996, 1999-2004); not a candidate for reelection, State Senate (2010); died, October 29, 2016 in Bentleyville, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Washington Cemetery, Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
