ROWE, John, a Representative from Franklin and Fulton Counties; born, October 4, 1814 in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pa.; merchant; justice of the peace; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1844); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1852 and 1853; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1854, 1862); elected, surveyor general of Pennsylvania (1856-1858); reelected as a Union Democrat to the House in 1861; elected, Speaker (1862); unsuccessful campaign as a Republican, United States Congress (1872); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Republican Convention (1880); died, December 27, 1880 in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
