SMITH, Persifor Frazer, a Representative from Chester County; born, January 23, 1808 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; A.M., University of Pennsylvania, 1824; studied law under William H. Dillingham; attorney (1829-1882); appointed, clerk of the Orphans Court, Chester County (1835); appointed, District Attorney, Delaware County (1839); elected as a Union Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representative in 1861; reelected to the House as a Republican in 1862 and 1863; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1864); appointed, State Reporter, Pennsylvania Supreme Court (1866-1880); died, May 25, 1882 in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
