WOODWARD, Orpheus Saeger, a Representative from Erie County; born, May 1, 1835 in Harborcreek, Erie County, Pa.; attended, Northwest State Normal School (now Edinboro University of Pennsylvania); captain, Company D, 83rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War); colonel and brevet brigadier­ general, 83rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865); school teacher; elected as a Union Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1865; reelected to the House as a Republican in 1866; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1867); engaged, hardware business; farmer; elected, mayor, Neosho Falls; elected, Kansas State Senate (1889-1892); elected, delegate, Republican State Convention, Kansas (1890); elected, school director, Neosho Falls; elected, city council, Neosho Falls; died, June 26, 1919 in the city of Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas; interred, Cedarvale Cemetery, Neosho Falls, Woodson County, Kansas.
