WADDELL, William Bell, a Representative from Chester County; born, September 21, 1828 in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, Princeton College (now Princeton University), 1849; read law under Joseph Hemphill; major, 10th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); attorney (1852-1887); burgess, West Chester (1857); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1864, 1865 and 1866; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1867); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (March 15, 1872-1873); elected, delegate, Republican National Convention (1884); judge, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, Chester County (appointed, 1887, elected, 1888-1897; president judge, 1888-1897); died, June 3, 1897 in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oakland Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
