GALLAGHER, Thomas Foster, a Representative from Indiana and Westmoreland Counties; born, January 17, 1822 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pa.; colonel, 40th Regiment, 11th Pennsylvania Voluntary Reserves (1861-1862, Civil War; prisoner of war, Libby Prison, June-August, 1862); colonel, 54th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); brevet brigadier general, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, United States Volunteers (1865, Civil War); served, 8th Division, Pennsylvania National Guard; major general, 17th Division, Pennsylvania National Guard (1870); merchant; miller; farmer; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1867 and 1868 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1869 term; elected, delegate, Republican State Convention (1875); died, November 4, 1883 in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, New Alexandria Union Cemetery, New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
