HICKMAN, John, a Representative from Chester County; born, September 11, 1810 in West Bradford Township, Chester County, Pa.; studied medicine; read law under Townsend Haines; attorney (1833-1875); elected, delegate, Democratic National Convention (1844); elected, District Attorney, Chester County (3 terms); elected United States Congress (1855-1863); appointed, manager, Congressional Impeachment proceedings of Judge West H. Humphreys (1862); not a candidate for reelection to Congress (1862); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1867; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1868); died, March 23, 1875 in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
