LaPORTE, Bartholomew, a Representative from Bradford County; born, January 25, 1823 in Frenchtown, Bradford County, Pa.; farmer; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term, reelected to the House as an Oppositionist for the 1856 term; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania Surveyor General (1857); reelected to the House as a Union Republican for the 1863 term, not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1864 term; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1872, 1874); died, September 15, 1889 in Asylum, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Frenchtown Cemetery, Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
