AMES, Frederick William, a Representative from Crawford County; born, July 22, 1822 in New York; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Hurlbut’s Mills, NY (1853-1854); county clerk, Clinton County, NY; engaged, lumber and oil businesses; elected, burgess, Titusville (1864-1865); elected, school director, Titusville (1866); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1868 and 1869; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1870); hardware merchant; director, Second National Bank of Titusville; died, October 13, 1898 in Titusville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
