LONGENECKER, Jacob Holsinger, a Representative from Bedford, Fulton and Somerset Counties; born, September 17, 1839 in Huston Township, Somerset County, Pa.; attended, Allegheny Seminary; graduated, Albany Law School, 1866; first lieutenant, Company D, 101st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); adjutant, 101st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1863-1865, Civil War: prisoner of war, 1864-1865); teacher; attorney (1866-1891); partner, Russell & Longenecker; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1868 and 1869; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1870); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1883-1886); deputy secretary, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1887-1890); Secretary of the Commonwealth (1890); elected, president judge, 16th judicial district, Somerset County (1890-1901); unsuccessful campaign for reelection as judge (1900); director, First National Bank of Bedford (1901-1916); died, September 23, 1916 in Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Bedford Cemetery, Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
