McATEER, Henry J., "Harry," a Representative from Huntingdon, Juniata and Mifflin Counties; born in West Township, Huntingdon County, Pa., January 4, 1838; teacher; passenger conductor and superintendent, Pennsylvania Railroad (1859-1869); general superintendent, Texas and Pacific Railroad (1869); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1870 and 1871 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1872 term; vice president, Betz Coal Company; secretary, Democratic State Committee; unsuccessful campaign, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1883); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1885-1888); gubernatorial appointee, World’s Columbian Exposition, Chicago (1893); surveyor, port of Philadelphia (1893-1897); died, February 23, 1915 in Alexandria, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania; interred, Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
