NEWBAKER, Dr. John Barrett, a Representative from Montour and Northumberland Counties; born, July 2, 1820 in Halifax, Dauphin County, Pa.; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1852; assistant surgeon, 56th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862, Civil War); farmer; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Augusta, Pa. (1852-1853); physician; elected as an Independent to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1872 term, not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1873 term; died, July 11, 1900 in Trevorton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greenwood Cemetery, Trevorton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
