STARR, George William, a Representative from Erie County; born, April 14, 1822 in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vt.; graduated, Union College (1842); attorney-at-law (1845-1902); civilian clerk, “U.S.S. Michigan” steamer (2 years); engaged, coal business; co-founder and board member, Erie Forge Company; board member, Erie Dime Bank; co-founder, Hamot Hospital (now UPMC Hamot); proprietor, Reed House Drug Store; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1870 and 1871; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1872); appointed, board member, State Hospital for the Insane of Warren (1880-1887); elected, water commissioner, city of Erie (1885-1890); elected, select council, city of Erie (6 terms); appointed, board of commissioners, Public Charities of Pennsylvania (1887-1902); died, March 30, 1902 in Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Erie Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
