SMITH, George Asbury, a Representative from Bedford and Fulton Counties; born, April 7, 1830 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pa.; attended, Dickinson School of Law (now Penn State Dickinson Law); teacher; school superintendent, Fulton County; lawyer (1859-1917); editor, Fulton Democrat; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a Special Election, February 13, 1872; Sworn-In, February 28, 1872 to serve the remaining 1872 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1873 term; engaged, real estate, Rogersville, Tn.; died, February 1, 1917 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia; interred, Rogersville Methodist Church Cemetery; Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee.
