FLEEGER, George Washington, a Representative from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer and Washington Counties; born, March 13, 1839 in Butler County, Pa.; attended, West Sunbury Academy; first lieutenant, Company C, 40th Regiment, 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserve (1861-1865, Civil War: prisoner of war, 1864); teacher; studied law under Col. John M. Thompson; attorney (1866-1904); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1870 and 1871; chair, Republican State Central Committee; elected, delegate, Republican State Convention (1882, 1890); elected, United States Congress (1885-1887); engaged, Butler County National Bank; director, Blue Ridge Oil Company; died, June 25, 1904 in Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania; interred, North Side Cemetery, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
