SHORTT, William Hamilton, a Representative from Warren County; born, June 23, 1822 in Lockerbie, County Dumfriesshire [now Dumfries], Scotland; tailor; engaged, mercantile business (1846-1872); elected, auditor, Warren County; elected, justice of the peace, Youngsville (10 years); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1871 and 1872; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1873); gubernatorial appointee, United States Consul, Cardiff, Wales (1873-1876); established and president, Sugar Grove Savings Bank (1877-1898); co-founder and director, Warren Savings Bank; died, October 19, 1909 in Youngsville, Warren County, Pennsylvania; interred, Youngsville Cemetery, Youngsville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
