SHUMAN, Julius Lewis, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, September 22, 1839 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; attended, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University of Pennsylvania); teacher; engaged, lumber business; mercantile appraiser, Lancaster County (1866); justice of the peace, Washington, Lancaster County; member, Lancaster County Republican Committee (8 years); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1873; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1874); tobacco farmer and dealer; clerk, pensions, United States War Department (1883); engaged, lumber business, Portsmouth, Va. (1884-1885); manager, lumber department, United States Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Va.; died, March 19, 1901 in Washington, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Washington Borough Cemetery, Washington, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
