WELSH, George W., a Representative from Franklin County; born, July 19, 1833 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pa.; studied law under J. McDowell Sharpe and Wilson Reilly; second lieutenant, Company B, 2nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); first lieutenant, Company A, 126th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863); attorney (1856-1887); elected, prothonotary, Franklin County (1869-1872); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1873; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1874); died, April 29, 1887 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
