THOMPSON, Jasper Markle, a Representative from Fayette County; born, August 30, 1822 in Washington, Mason County, Ky.; farmer; live-stock farmer; clerk and bookkeeping, paper mill and general store; Presidential appointee, collector of international revenue,  21st Pennsylvania district (1862-1866); Presidential appointee, receiver of commutation money, 21st  Pennsylvania district (1866); organizer and director, First National Bank (1863-70); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1867); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1869, 1886); president, First National Bank (1870-1889); director, Uniontown and West Virginia Railway (1873); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1874 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1875 term; president, Fayette Gas and Oil Co. of Uniontown (1886); trustee, Washington and Jefferson College; director, Western Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church, Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh), Pa.; president, Uniontown Building and Loan Association (1870-1889); died, March 15, 1889 in Menallen Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Grove Cemetery, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
