BATES, Frederick, a Representative from Crawford County; born, November 26, 1830 in Vermont; elected, secretary, Republican Club of Titusville (1868); assistant assessor, 20th District, United States Internal Revenue Service (1869-1870); elected, mayor, Titusville (1870-1871); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1872 and 1873; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1874); insurance agent; elected, president, school board, Titusville; died, August 13, 1900 in Titusville, Crawford County. Pennsylvania; interred, Woodlawn Cemetery, Titusville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
