BROWN, Robert B., a Representative from Jefferson County; born, Huntingdon County, Pa., on November 9, 1837; graduated, Cumberland Valley Institute (now Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania); second lieutenant, Company E, 155th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862, Civil War); newspaper editor and owner, including, the Brownsville Times (1859-1863), the Clarion Democrat (1863-1877), the Erie Weekly Observer (1878-1885), the Erie Daily Observer (1881-1885), and the Meadville Messenger-Democrat (1885-1893, 1898-1901); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1869 and 1870 terms; reelected to the House for the 1875 and 1876 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Meadville (1893-1897); died, November 9, 1901 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
